Self-Evidence is an interactive art installation that first debuted at the Burning Man Festival in 2008. Inspired by the year’s theme, “The American Dream”, it stemmed from a reading of The Constitution and evolved to include the merits of both Native American ideology as well as the inherent power of the Feminine.

The intention of Self-Evidence is to inspire self-reflection as a path to foster self-awareness. It’s our belief that Self-Awareness is the foundation upon which we act in the world... particular to this theme being our individual roles in Democracy relative to the world we want to be co-creating.

The basic premise of the installation is the asking of the following question:

To What Do You Pledge Your Allegiance?

What’s your answer?

What inspires you & your actions?

Democracy is comprised by each individual’s participation, and a more self-informed individual is a better steward of it. It is our hope that by creating an invitation for self-reflection that it adds to the efficacy of what democracy can be poised to accomplish.

This website shares part of the journey as well as the realities that the piece inspired.

An intention-in-progress (much like democracy), our hope is that the invitation of the piece lives on.

So if you have any ideas on showcasing this installation, please get in touch.

In the spirit of Jefferson, “we believe these truths to be self-evident” and

welcome any truths you feel inspired to offer as well.

With many thanks & great optimism...
